Former Gildan Employee Arrested for Bomb Threats in Rockingham County

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — (BTW21) A former employee of the Gildan facility in Mayodan was arrested last week after allegedly sending threatening messages and making a verbal threat against current employees.
On June 5, 2025, at approximately 3:57 p.m., 42-year-old Benny William Corum Jr. was taken into custody at his residence by Rockingham County authorities.
He faces two felony charges for making a false report concerning a destructive device in connection with threats he allegedly made earlier in the week.
According to investigators, on June 3, Corum sent threatening text messages to the manager of Gildan, located at 170 Shakey Road in Mayodan, where he was previously employed.
The following day, June 4, he reportedly made a verbal threat to a current employee of the same facility.
Corum is currently being held at the Rockingham County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
He is scheduled to appear in District Court on July 12, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
Authorities have not released further details about the nature of the threats, but confirmed there was no active explosive device found during the investigation.
The case remains under investigation by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.
