Fire rips through home in Henry County during snowstorm

HENRY COUNTY, VA – Plumes of smoke poured from a burning home in Henry County on Monday morning as a snowstorm hit the area.

The blaze erupted at about 10:46 a.m. in the 800 block of Friendly Church Road near the Horsepasture community.

“It appears to have started from a malfunction from a generator while the power was out. The family was displaced and American Red Cross is helping them,” Horsepasture Fire Chief William Martin told BTW21 News.

Firefighters from Horsepasture, Fieldale, Ridgeway, and Patrick-Henry fire departments and paramedics from the Henry County Department of Public Safety responded to the fire.

We asked Martin if the home was a total loss.

“Yes, it was. The back wall is gone and about 80% of the roof is gone. What the fire didn't get had smoke and water damage,” he said.
