Fire in Ridgeway prompts large response from fire departments

RIDGEWAY, VA – A fire Tuesday morning on the porch of a mobile home on Creek Way Trail prompted a large response from two local fire departments.

The Ridgeway District Volunteer Fire Department was the primary responder, as the home is in their jurisdiction.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:16 a.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 call that the porch of a mobile home was on fire.

“The fire was isolated to the front porch and there was minor damage to the home. Power was disconnected due to some electrical being damaged by the fire,” Henry County Assistant Fire Marshal Kiah Cooper told BTW21 News.

Cooper said the blaze has been determined accidental and the cause was discarded smoking materials in a plastic flower pot on the porch.

Engine 1510, Engine 1511 and Engine 1515 from the Ridgeway fire department and Tanker 1320 and Tanker 1325 from the Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department responded.

Unit 516 from the Henry County Department of Public Safety and Car 90 from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

There were no reports of injuries of either residents or first responders.
