FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA – Firefighters in Franklin County are expected to work a large wildfire all night Sunday.

At 12:19 p.m., firefighters were called for a woods fire off of Dillion’s Mill Road in Boones Mill.

Boones Mill volunteers found a fire deep in the woods that limited foot and ATV accessibility.

Mutual aid from Callaway, Roanoke County and the Virginia Department of Forestry was requested.

According to Responding Fire, crews mopped up hot spots and established a fire line around the approximate 30-acre wildfire to help contain any further spreading.

As of 9 p.m., crews were still working the fire, which was about 90 percent contained, and are expect to be there until midnight.

The fire appears to have been caused by at least one person, but details are still in the developing stage.
