Fatal Shooting in Ridgeway: Suspect Fleeing with Children Sparks Manhunt

RIDGEWAY, Va. (BTW21)— Two people are dead following a domestic-related shooting in Ridgeway on Tuesday afternoon, and authorities are urgently searching for a suspect believed to have fled the scene with two small children.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call around 1 p.m. at a home in the 300 block of Meeks Road. Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased male and female inside the residence.

“This appears to be a domestic-related incident,” said Sheriff Wayne Davis

“We believe the suspect may have taken a 2-year-old and an 11-month-old from the scene. The children may be in danger.”

The suspect’s identity has not yet been released, but authorities are working swiftly to locate him and ensure the safety of the children. Sheriff Davis stated that officials are determining whether the situation qualifies for an Amber Alert.

The residence is located near the North Carolina border, and investigators believe the suspect may have crossed state lines following the incident.

Law enforcement agencies from both states are involved in the manhunt.

Virginia State Police, Rockingham County (N.C.) Sheriff Sam Page, and the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office are assisting the Henry County Sheriff’s Office in the ongoing investigation and search efforts.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts or who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to come forward immediately.
