Fatal Crash in Highland County Under Investigation

HIGHLAND COUNTY, Va. (BTW21) — Virginia State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Monterey woman on Wednesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. on June 11 on Potomac River Road, about two-tenths of a mile north of Sunset Drive.
According to investigators, a 2021 Subaru Forester was traveling south on Potomac River Road when it ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a fence, and overturned.
The driver, identified as 70-year-old Rebecca Hunt Walker of Monterey, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
She was transported to the University of Virginia Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The Virginia State Police say the crash remains under investigation.
