Eden Man Charged After Shots Fired Incident on Delaware Avenue

EDEN, N.C. — (BTW21) A 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges after an incident involving gunfire on Delaware Avenue last Friday evening, according to a news release from the Eden Police Department.


On May 16, 2025, at approximately 8:51 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1400 block of Delaware Avenue. Upon arrival, officers apprehended the suspect, identified as Brandon Tyler Handy of Eden, North Carolina.


Following an investigation, police charged Handy with several offenses, including:


  • Discharging a weapon into an occupied property (Felony)

  • Child Abuse (Misdemeanor)

  • Simple Assault (Misdemeanor)

  • Going armed to the terror of the people (Misdemeanor)

  • Discharging a firearm within city limits (Misdemeanor)


Handy was transported to the Rockingham County Magistrate’s Office, where a magistrate released him on a written promise to appear in court.


His first court date is scheduled for May 29, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in Wentworth District Court.
