Driver Arrested After High-Speed Chase and Crash on Horsepasture Price Rd

On August 3, 2024, at approximately 3:18 pm, a Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to pull over a red Ford Ranger truck on Horsepasture Price Rd.

The driver, identified as Otis Lee Hill Jr., 51, of 33 Wisteria Ln, Martinsville, Virginia, ignored the deputy’s emergency lights and siren and accelerated, initiating a high-speed pursuit.

During the chase, which reached speeds of up to 80 mph, Hill drove recklessly, overtaking vehicles on double yellow lines, driving into oncoming traffic, and forcing other vehicles off the road.

The pursuit continued onto Horsepasture Price Rd and crossed into North Carolina.

When Hill made a right turn onto Martinsville Loop, the deputy executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T. maneuver).

The maneuver successfully caused Hill’s truck to lose traction and slide into a ditch on the road’s shoulder, where it rolled onto its side and came to a halt.

Hill was taken into custody without further incident.

A female passenger in the truck sustained a minor laceration to her head and was transported to UNC of Rockingham for treatment.

She was treated and subsequently released.

Hill, who had multiple outstanding felony warrants, faces several charges in addition to his prior warrants, including:

- Felony Eluding Police (Virginia Code Section §46.2-817)

- Obstruction of Justice (Virginia Code Section §18.2-460)

He is currently held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463). Rewards of up to $2,500 are available for information leading to the resolution of a crime.
