Dozens of shots fired at large Martinsville parties, one arrested

MARTINSVILLE, VA – Martinsville Police said they responded to two separate shootings with similar circumstances early Sunday morning.

First, police were called to the vicinity of Sunset Avenue and Red Oak Street around midnight and then to the 1200 block of Mountain Road around 2 a.m.

In both incidents, multiple shots were fired following the breakup of large parties mostly attended by juveniles, according to Martinsville Police Department Captain Sandy Hines.

Officers at the scene of the shooting on Mountain Road said over 40 bullet casings were found.

Police said after the shots were fired, everyone scattered and at the Mountain Road scene, three juveniles were found in a wooded area nearby.

The juveniles were detained for questioning and they refused to identify themselves to officers for about an hour.

They were later turned over to their parents when it was determined they were not involved in the shooting.

Christopher Wade, 18, of Danville was arrested at the Mountain Road scene and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Police said other charges are pending.

There was property damage at both locations.

An occupied home and a vehicle were hit by the gunfire.

All of the local hospitals were checked and it was determined that it appears no one was injured in either incident, according to officials.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist.

The investigation is continuing and police are still looking for other individuals involved.

Anyone with information should contact Lieutenant Jim Lovell at 276-403-5320.
