Domestic-Related Shooting Under Investigation in Axton

Axton, Virginia — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a domestic-related shooting that occurred late Monday night in Axton, resulting in the death of a 46-year-old man.
On November 11, 2025, at approximately 11:35 PM, deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot victim at 84 Sand Stone Court in Axton, Virginia.
Henry County Public Safety personnel also arrived on scene to assist.
Upon arrival, first responders located an individual suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the victim, Ronald W. McGugan, age 46, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting occurred following an argument involving McGugan, his brother, and other family members.
Investigators processed the scene for physical evidence and conducted multiple witness interviews throughout the night.
After consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, and based on evidence gathered thus far, no charges will be filed at this time in connection with the incident.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to review evidence and witness statements.
