UPDATE: No foul play suspected in investigation of body found in Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE – On September 6, 2018 a citizen saw a male not moving, lying in the parking lot of 824 Starling Avenue. Martinsville police officers responded to the scene and found Billy Lee McGill, age 43 of Martinsville, to be person lying in the parking lot. It was immediately apparent to the officers that Mr. McGill was deceased. Martinsville police criminal investigators also responded to the scene. After a detailed preliminary investigation, investigators did not find any signs of foul play. The evidence appears to indicate that Mr. McGill fell off of a retaining wall into the parking lot. This fall created an injury which resulted in his death. To confirm these findings, the body of Mr. McGill has been set the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke.


The Martinsville Police Department would like to express their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Billy McGill in their tragic loss.


MARTINSVILLE – A dead body was found in the parking lot of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Starling Avenue, Thursday evening. An investigator with the Martinsville Police Department told BTW21 the body appears to be of a black male in his 40s. The investigator said the body will not be identified until the family has been notified. Stone Ambulance removed the body from the scene and transported it to the examiner’s office in Roanoke for an autopsy.
