FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA – A former Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputy was sentenced Thursday after being charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol.
McKenzie Dylan Smith was taken into custody by the Rocky Mount Police Department during the early morning hours on April 23.
Court records show that Smith was released on recognizance and was charged with misdemeanor DWI with a blood alcohol content between 0.15% and 0.2%.
On Thursday, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 30 days suspended for the charge, according to court records.
The use of his driver’s license is restricted for a year.
On May 3, the sheriff’s office confirmed that Smith is no longer employed there.

According to court records from the Franklin County General District Court, Deputy McKenzie Dylan Smith was arrested during the early morning hours on Saturday.
Court records show that Smith was released on recognizance and was charged with misdemeanor DWI with a blood alcohol content between 0.15% and 0.2%.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office tells BTW21 News that the deputy has been placed on administrative suspension pending an internal investigation.
