Dan River Falls Named One of Virginia’s Top Projects

DANVILLE, Va. — Dan River Falls has been named a 2026 Top Project by Virginia Business, earning statewide recognition for its design, execution and community impact.

Formerly known as the White Mill, the former Dan River Mills textile facility has been transformed into a mixed-use development featuring residential, office and commercial space. The property currently houses more than 270 residents, Dewberry, the Danville Office of Economic Development and Danville Parks and Recreation.

Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones described the redevelopment as an example of what can happen when a community works toward a shared vision.

“We took a place that meant so much to our past and gave it new life for future generations,” Jones said.

The City of Danville and the Alexander Company led the redevelopment through a public-private partnership. City Manager Ken Larking credited City Council, city staff, the Danville Industrial Development Authority and private development partners for helping move the complex project forward.

The once-vacant textile property had stood as a reminder of Danville’s industrial decline for nearly three decades. Officials said its transformation now honors the site’s history while creating new housing, business activity and economic opportunities.

Dan River Falls has received several other honors during the past year, including recognition from the Public Relations Society of America’s Blue Ridge Chapter, the International Economic Development Council and the Brownfields People’s Choice Awards. City of Danville.
