Cyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Bedford County

Bedford County, VA – May 24, 2025 (BTW21) A tragic hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a bicyclist Saturday afternoon in Bedford County.


The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Nemmo Road.


According to the Virginia State Police, the cyclist was traveling along Nemmo Road when a silver or gray pickup truck crossed the center line and struck the rider.


The pickup, which was pulling a small black utility trailer, continued south on Nemmo Road toward Route 24 after the collision.



Witnesses at the scene described the driver of the suspect vehicle as a Hispanic or possibly Indian male, approximately 30 to 40 years old, with short, dark curly hair.


The driver reportedly exited the vehicle briefly to check on the injured cyclist before returning to the truck and fleeing the scene without offering aid or waiting for authorities.



Authorities confirmed that the cyclist succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.


The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.


The suspect vehicle is believed to have sustained visible damage to the driver's side mirror, as well as the front left headlight and front fender.



Virginia State Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about the vehicle or driver involved to come forward.


Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling the State Police.


Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are reviewing nearby surveillance footage in hopes of identifying the suspect vehicle.
