BASSETT, VA – Virginia State Police have released the names of two people killed in a crash in Bassett on Friday.
It happened Friday at around 10:06 a.m. on Fairystone Park Highway near Stones Dairy Road.
A 2016 Kia Soul was going east on Fairystone Park Highway, when it crossed the centerline and struck a 1999 Lincoln Town Car head-on, according to State Police.
The Kia driver was identified as Rico Thadeaus Scales, 34, of Spencer.
Police say Scales was not wearing his seatbelt and was transported to Atrium Health, Wake Forest Baptist, where he later died.
The passenger was identified as Kimberly Lawson, 35.
Lawson was wearing her seatbelt and was transported to a local hospital for injuries received in the crash.
The Lincoln driver was identified as Bruce Clifton Joyce, 78, of Bassett.
Joyce was wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation.
