HENRY COUNTY – A Henry County man won nearly $500,000 playing the Virginia Lottery.
Fred Smith had just had some time with his son, who was home on leave from the Navy.
The two had lunch, but then his son left to get back to duty.
When Smith stopped on the way home to get some groceries, he also bought two Print ‘n Play Rolling Jackpot tickets.
One of those tickets was a $447,559 winner!
“I knew it was the jackpot!” he told Lottery officials. “It feels great!”
The Collinsville man bought his winning ticket at Eastwood General Store at 1555 Irisburg Road in Axton.
Smith said he intends to pay off his mortgage and live debt-free.
Henry County received more than $7.4 million in Lottery funds for K-12 public education last fiscal year.
