Collinsville elderly couple killed in Route 220 crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA – An elderly couple died after a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Franklin County on Thursday.


The crash happened at around 5:29 p.m. on Route 220 at the intersection of Fork Mountain Road.


According to Virginia State Police, a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze was crossing Route 220, failed to yield the right-of-way and was hit by a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was going north on Route 220.


State Police identified the driver of the Chevrolet as Wallace Lester Gusler, 90, and the passenger as Ruby Zelma Gusler, 86, both of Collinsville.


Police said both were wearing their seatbelts and died at the scene.


No charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
