HENRY COUNTY, VA – Local bikers, Big Bird's Toy Run and Christmas Cheer of Martinsville and Henry County came together to donate thousands of dollars worth of brand new furniture to a family who experienced a house fire.
On Friday night, Austin Craig's home located on Route 57 in the Bassett community caught fire. Craig, his wife, and their 6 children made it out safely and were unharmed.
Bassett Furniture, a major sponsor of the toy run, donates new furniture each year to help raise funds for Christmas Cheer. Instead of auctioning off the furniture, the event's participants had a different idea.
Chad Hall, the event's coordinator since Ricky “Big Bird” Holcomb passed the baton over in 2017, loaded and delivered the furniture on Tuesday afternoon.
The 28th annual Big Bird's Toy Run held Saturday saw over 200 bikes and raised over $6,700 to provide food and gifts to many local families this Christmas.
