Authorities still searching for answers 18 years after Short family murders

HENRY COUNTY, VA – Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry says his office is getting new leads in the Short family murders.

On August 15, 2002 at approximately 9 a.m., the bodies of Michael and Mary Short were discovered in their Henry County home.

Both had been shot in the head in separate locations of the home while they were sleeping: Michael, in the garage, and Mary in the bedroom.

Investigators learned that the home phone line had been cut.

The Short's, 9-year-old daughter, Jennifer, was missing.

Following an Amber Alert and a nearly month search, Jennifer's remains were found by a man’s dogs along a stream off of Gordon Road in Stoneville, North Carolina on September 25, 2002.

Jennifer also had been shot in the head and later dumped near the stream.

Law enforcement authorities continue to seek the public's help in locating the suspect(s) involved in the murders of the Short family.

Anyone with information regarding the murders is asked to call the FBI tip line at 1-800-225-5324 or Crimestoppers at 276-632-7463.
