ROCKY MOUNT, VA – Virginia State Police believe alcohol was a factor in a Sunday night crash that sent two people to the hospital via air ambulance.

The crash occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on Sontag Road near Samuel Lane.

A 2002 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling on Sontag Road when it crossed the centerline and hit a 2003 Nissan Altima head-on, according to state police.

The Mercury was driven by 51-year-old Angela Mayhew, of Martinsville, and the Nissan was driven by a 22-year-old Bassett man.

Both drivers were not wearing their seatbelts, police said.

Charges on Mayhew are pending.
