ROANOKE, Va. — Police in Roanoke are investigating a fatal crash involving a moped that occurred earlier this month.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, members of the Major Crash Team are handling the investigation following the incident, which happened on November 5 around 8:29 a.m. Officers were called to the intersection of 5th Street and Elm Avenue SW after reports of a serious collision.

When first responders arrived, they found an injured man suffering from life-threatening wounds.

He was transported to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries on November 8. Police identified the victim as 56-year-old Timothy Harrison of Roanoke.

Preliminary findings indicate that the moped was traveling north on 5th Street SW when it reportedly went through a red light and struck a Ford F-150 that was moving east on Elm Avenue SW with a green light.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to gather more details about the crash.
