PATRICK COUNTY, VA – An Ararat man has been arrested following an aggravated domestic disturbance, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.
At around 2:56 a.m. on Saturday morning, the 911 center received a call of a domestic disturbance in which shots had been fired.
Deputies responded to 210 Willis Gap Road in Ararat and made contact with a female who told them that her husband had fired a gun inside of the residence.
The husband fled the scene prior to deputies arriving.
The sheriff's office says an investigation led to the discovery of a firearm and bullet hole in the floor of the residence.
Gary Lee Ayers Jr., 32, was arrested after a brief standoff at the residence on Sunday.
Ayers is charged with shooting inside an occupied dwelling and is being held without bond in the Patrick County Jail.
