Martinsville woman among those wanted after man shot during attempted robbery

COLLINSVILLE, VA – The Henry County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the Malicious Wounding and attempted robbery of Jeffrie Bernard Hairston Jr.


Tuesday at approximately 1:51 PM, the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Center received a call that an individual had been shot at 79 Ridgemont Circle in Collinsville. 


Deputies arrived and made contact with the victim, Jeffrie Bernard Hairston Jr., 30, of 79 Ridgemont Circle, Collinsville, VA. 


Hairston was transported to SOVAH Health Martinsville where he was treated and released.


Hairston sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his buttocks.


Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Courtney Leigh Helms and two additional suspects went to Hairston’s home and attempted to rob him. 


Courtney Leigh Helms, 25, of 1446 W. Fayette St., Martinsville, VA is currently wanted for attempted robbery (felony).


The two suspects who entered the home are described as black males wearing dark color hooded shirts and masks.


This incident remains under investigation. 


Anyone having information regarding this incident or the whereabouts of Courtney Leigh Helms is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463).  The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards up to $2500.00 for information related to crime.  The nature of the crime and the substance of the information determine the amount of reward paid.
