RIDGEWAY, VA – 15 people were tested on the opening day of the COVID-19 testing site at Martinsville Speedway on Wednesday.
Testing is free, but is only open to residents of the city of Martinsville and Henry County and Patrick counties who have a referral from a physician.
If you suspect you have the virus, you should contact your physician to discuss whether you should be tested.
If the doctor feels a test is needed, they will send certain documentation to the site.
Results will be given to the referring doctor who will then contact the patient with them in 3 to 5 days as more labs are receiving approval to test.
“As long as we can get testing supplies, and we’re working with various partners so that shouldn’t be a problem, and as long as there’s cases, we will continue to be here,” Nancy Bell, Population Health Manager of the Virginia Department of Health West Piedmont District, said.
The Harvest Foundation is providing $300,000 in funding.
Why the Martinsville Speedway?
“Look at it, it’s close to 220, everyone knows where it is and you can’t miss it. It’s open air, we can social distance, we can flow traffic in and out.” Bell said.
The testing site will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. but could change depending on demand.
The site is located at 340 Speedway Road in Ridgeway.
