14 coronavirus cases reported in West Piedmont Health District as surge continues

The surge continues in the West Piedmont Health District as more confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported, including Martinsville's first case of the virus in a child.


Nancy Bell, spokesperson for the district, reported eight new cases in Martinsville, five in Henry County and one in Patrick County on Monday evening.


Martinsville’s cases are five males and three females, including a child between age one and five.


Bell said no further details are available at this time at the child case.


The others' age range from 20s, 30s and 70s.


In Henry County, four women and one man in ages ranging from 20s, 30s and 80s tested positive.


A woman in her 60’s was Patrick County's reported case.


That brings the total to 48 cases in Henry County, 16 cases in Martinsville, and nine in Patrick County.
