BASSETT, VA – A Thursday evening crash claimed the life of a 41-year-old woman in Bassett.
Emergency crews responded to the incident on Fairystone Park Highway at Woody Circle at around 4:30 p.m.
A 2003 Dodge Neon was traveling on Fairystone Park Highway, when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and hit a tree, according to Virginia State Police.
The driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Police said the passenger, Kristina Rouse Janey, of Fieldale, was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene.
Bassett Volunteer Fire Department, Bassett Rescue Square, Henry County Public Safety, and Henry County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance.
The incident also prompted the dispatch of LifeGuard and AirCare medical helicopters.
The crash is still under investigation.
