Driver had medical emergency prior to crashing into tree in Fieldale, police say

FIELDALE, VA – A man was injured after he experienced a medical episode while driving and before crashing his vehicle into a tree, according to Virginia State Police Trooper M.L. Gravely.

The Kia sedan run off at the sharp curve where Field Avenue turns into 10th Street and ended about 10 yards away from the road in a wooded area.

Volunteer fire departments from Fieldale and Collinsville were dispatched to the scene at around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday.

The man was transported to Sovah Health in Martinsville by Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad for head and leg injuries, Trooper Gravely said.

The Henry County Department of Public Safety also assisted at the crash scene.
