Akeem Clark wanted for murder of Axton man

AXTON, VA – A man is wanted in Henry County for a Friday evening murder.


A friend brought Antwain Royqwell-Garifield Hampton, 24, of Hampton Circle in Axton, to Sovah Health in Danville shortly after 5 p.m.


According to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis, Hampton had been shot and died at the hospital.


After responding to the hospital and talking to the friend who took Hampton there, Pittsylvania County investigators learned the incident occurred in the 7000 block of Axton Road.


Henry County investigators responded to Axton Road and executed a search warrant at the mobile home.


The home was not occupied and investigators worked through the night to process the scene for evidence.


Authorities said the investigation found that during an altercation, Akeem Laquan Clark, 33, of Axton, took out a gun and shot Hampton.


Warrants have been issued for Clark for second degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony.

AXTON, VA – Investigators in Henry County are working to locate where a homicide took place Friday evening.


Just after 5 p.m. a male showed up at Sovah Health in Danville with a gunshot wound and later died from his injuries, according to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis.


Sheriff Davis said authorities in Pittsylvania County notified his department of the homicide several hours later and an investigation was launched.


“...They notified us, here in Henry County, that they had received the information that the incident took place here in the 7000 block of Axton Road...” Davis told BTW21 News at the scene.


The SWAT team executed a search warrant at the mobile home around 11:30 p.m. and found it to be vacant.

“We believe we are in the correct place based on witnesses the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office worked with that led them here,” Sheriff Davis explained.


The Sheriff said the identity of the victim will be provided once family is notified.
