Reidsville Man Arrested by Rockingham County Sheriff's Deputies Following Vehicle Pursuit

REIDSVILLE – VINCENT DA'TWAN TATUM, 27, of 605 Morehead St. Reidsville, N.C. was captured and arrested on Sunday June 17th at around 1:15 a.m. following a vehicle pursuit that began in Eden, traveled into Henry County Va., then came back down into Rockingham County where it ended on Price Rd. at Roberts Rd. in Stoneville after Tatum rammed his vehicle into a Rockingham County Deputies patrol car wrecking his vehicle in the process.

The pursuit began earlier in the evening when Eden Police Officers attempted a vehicle stop on a 1995 Carolina Blue in color Toyota Camry on Kings Highway near Bridge Street within the city limits of Eden. The vehicle, later determined to be driven by Tatum, fled and a pursuit ensued. Tatum's vehicle fled into Henry County Va. where Henry County Deputies intercepted and took over the pursuit. The vehicle then came back into Rockingham County where officers lost sight of it.

Shortly thereafter, Deputies Thompson and Watson spotted the vehicle which again fled and the Deputies gave pursuit. As the pursuit neared the Price Rd./Roberts Rd. intersection, Tatum rammed Deputy Thompson's patrol vehicle, wrecking his own vehicle in the process. Neither Tatum nor the Deputy were seriously injured. Tatum was rescued from the wrecked vehicle and placed under arrest by Deputies.

Tatum was placed in the Rockingham County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond for a number of felony charges including Felony Flee to Elude Arrest and Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer, and numerous driving violations from both the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office and the Eden Police Department. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 9th.
