Martinsville Police Department to host church security seminar


MARTINSVILLE – Are you concerned about your church's security? The Martinsville Police Department has received many requests to conduct a church security class. To do so they are bringing in one of the top experts on the subject, Rick Arrington, to give a free, one day seminar. The seminar is directed at faith organization leadership. Rick Arrington, Crime Prevention Programs Manager and Program Analyst at Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, is the author of Securing the Faithful: Preventing and Addressing Crime in Places of Worship. The book provides direction and implementation for better protecting both the members of the church, and the building itself. Securing the Faithful includes sections on burglary, robbery, violent attackers, and protection. Also, maps out strategies for a volunteer security team, formal policies for building and meeting use, and more, according to the book description. Arrington will have a limited number of his book available for purchase at the event.

The class will be Monday, August 6 from 9 AM to 4 PM and will take place at First United Methodist Church in Uptown Martinsville.
