Martinsville man arrested for fatal shooting at apartment complex




HENRY COUNTY, VA – A man is dead and another is in jail after a shooting at an apartment complex in Henry County.


Tuesday at around 6:50 p.m., law enforcement responded to Northview Gardens Apartments, located at 755 Stultz Road, for a gunshot wound call.


When Henry County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they say they found the victim, Deshawn Marquis Ross, 22, of Bassett, inside an apartment.


Henry County Public Safety arrived and began treating Ross, but he died at the scene.


Investigators say they quickly began getting information about the suspect.


The investigation found that that an argument ensued between Ross, and Jahari Keontae Pritchett, 22, of Martinsville.


Pritchett pulled out a gun and shot Ross before fleeing the scene, according to the sheriff's office.


Pritchett was taken into custody without incident in the Axton area of the county around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday.


He has been charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony.
