PATRICK COUNTY – Virginia State Police is investigating a two vehicle crash which resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred on Saturday at 8:49 AM on Woolwine Highway (Route 8), four tenths of a mile north of Elamsville Road (Route 618) in Patrick County.
According to state police, a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling south on Woolwine Highway. The tractor-trailer crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado which was traveling north on Woolwine Highway.
The Freightliner was driven by 46-year-old Joseph George Deleo, Jr. of Basset. Deleo was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.
The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as 65-year-old Charles Levene Sellers of Martinsville. Sellers was wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.
Deleo was charged with reckless driving.
The crash remains under investigation.
