MARTINSVILLE, VA – LifeCare Medical Transports, a health care transportation provider, will be closing the Martinsville, Danville, and Roanoke locations.
“This week, LifeCare Medical Transports scaled back non-emergency ambulance operations...” a company statement read.
Operations elsewhere in the state will not be impacted, according to the statement.
Employees told BTW21 News that each location will have one ambulance until March 1 and then those locations will close for good.
The statement did not talk about a closure so we reached out to LifeCare.
“Yes, we can confirm that we will closing those locations effective 3/1/23,” Liz Merritt, a spokesperson for the company wrote in an email on Friday.
About 35 drivers, EMTs and paramedics were offered opportunities to transfer to open positions, the company said.
“Economic pressures beyond our control have significantly impacted our business. Since the COVID pandemic began nearly three years ago, the ambulance industry has experienced a significant surge in the costs to provide services. We never take these decisions lightly. This was a very difficult decision and came after significant fiscal analysis at all levels of our company,” the statement said.
The Martinsville location opened in July 2019.
