
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, NC – Rockingham County investigators are seeking information on an assault and robbery that left a man badly injured.
It occurred Thursday at around 4:30 AM in the 100 block of Hendren Lane in Stokesdale, NC.
According to the sheriff's office, Richard Wood III was about to enter his work truck when he was struck from behind causing him to fall to the ground.
Wood advised he was then struck by the suspect several times with a bat or other such blunt object, injuring him in the face and right arm.
Authorities say the suspect, described as a Caucasian male with short hair, proceeded to rob Wood of an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect fled in a loud sounding manual transmission vehicle.
The sheriff's office says Wood was transported to the hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
