Former Henry County deputy, three others arrested for murder of 63-year-old woman

HENRY COUNTY, VA – A former Henry County deputy along with three other people have been charged for the homicide of a 63-year-old woman who was found dead inside her home on May 13.

The investigation began at approximately 7:52 a.m., upon the discovery of Pamela Morse dead inside her home in the 1300 block of Wingfield Orchard Road.


Her husband called 9-1-1 to report that he had just arrived home from work and discovered his wife dead. 


The office of the medical examiner confirmed Morse died from a gunshot wound. 

State police say several items had been stolen from the residence including a 2010 Jeep Compass.


Later that same day, the Jeep with several firearms and other stolen items inside was recovered abandoned behind a residence in Franklin County

State police have charged:

  • the husband, 66-year-old David Lee Morse, with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He is being held without bond at the Martinsville City Jail. 

  • 37-year-old Collin Joshua Russell, of Stuart, with first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, use of a firearm in the commission of felony, grand larceny of a firearm and grand larceny of a motor vehicle. He is being held at the Patrick County Jail without bond.

  • 54-year-old Tanna Shelton Fitzgerald, of Fieldale, with first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. She is being held without bond at the Henry County Jail.

  • 27-year-old Casey Lynn Rogers, of Meadows of Dan, with first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, grand larceny of a firearm and grand larceny of a motor vehicle. She is being held without bond at the Martinsville City Jail.


All four were taken into custody without incident. 

The investigation remains ongoing. 


 

MAY 14 UPDATE

HENRY COUNTY, VA – State police have identified the 63-year-old woman found dead inside her home in Henry County.


State police say Pamela Morse was found by her husband when he returned home at approximately 7:55 a.m. on Wednesday. 


The Henry County Sheriff's Office responded to the home in the 1300 block of Wingfield Orchard Road in Henry County and handed over the investigation to state police because a retired deputy lives in the home.

Police say a 2010 Jeep Compass was missing from the driveway and was later located behind a residence in Henry Community of Franklin County.


Morse's body was sent to the office of the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.

HENRY COUNTY, VA – An homicide investigation is underway after a woman was found dead inside her home on Wednesday morning.


The woman's husband called 9-1-1 at around 7:55 a.m. to report that he had returned from work and found her dead from a gunshot wound.


Deputies then responded to the 1300 block of Wingfield Orchard Road in Henry County.


“One of the things that we will be asking the viewers help for. A red Jeep Compass, 2010 year model, and Virginia plate VFV-5461. It is missing from the residence,” Sheriff Lane Perry told BTW21 News at the scene.


The investigation has been handed over to state police because a retired Henry County deputy lives in the home.
