UPDATE: State Police confirms two dead after Bassett accident

BASSETT – Virginia State Police Trooper B.M. Deloatch is investigating a single vehicle crash which resulted in two fatalities. The crash occurred Sunday at 4:25 PM on Sunset Drive, Route 673, two tenths of a mile north of Route 1234 in Bassett.

A 2003 Saturn L200 was traveling south on Route 673, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, crossing the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver of the Saturn was identified as Conrad Jermaine Prunty, 35 of Fieldale. Prunty was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene. The passenger, Christopher Dashuan Stokes, 31, of Lebanon was also not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene. Vehicle speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

BASSETT – A motor vehicle accident on Sunset Drive in Bassett resulted in unconfirmed multiple fatalities. The accident involving a black in color Saturn sedan occurred Sunday afternoon. Virginia State Police is investigating.
