PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY – Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash in Pittsylvania County. The crash occurred Tuesday at 1:34 PM on West Gretna Road, west of Route 775. A 2015 Mazda 5 Sport was traveling east on Route 40 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree head-on. The 32-year-old female driver and two children passengers from Durham, North Carolina were transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A third passenger, a 5-year-old boy, did not survive the crash.
The driver was wearing a seat belt and all three children were secured in child safety seats, booster seats.
The crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
