Homes, businesses damaged after tornado touches down in Franklin County



FRANKLIN COUNTY – The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touchdown in Franklin County around 10:40 AM Friday. Wind speeds were being reported around 50 to 60 miles per hour.

Areas: Sontag, Snydersville, Rocky Mount and 220 North.

The Humane Society in Rocky Mount reported damage such as trees downs, heavy rainfall and small hail.

A very strong windsheer was also reported and several houses were damaged.

What type of tornado will be confirmed later.

Debris was also reported flying in air and roofs from homes and trees falling.

220 traffic is being detoured to Fishburn Road.
