PITTSYLVANIA COUNY – Virginia State Police Trooper D.A. Fulcher is investigating a two-vehicle crash in Pittsylvania County. The crash occurred May 14, 2018, at 6:55 p.m., on Route 729, less than a mile south of Route 360.
A 2008 Chevrolet Aveo was traveling north Route 729 when it rear-ended a tractor-trailer. The truck had stopped due to mechanical issues.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Rachel F. Gatewood, 31, of Sutherlin, Va., died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
