Stoneville, NC woman still missing 16 years later

STONEVILLE, NC – This holiday season will mark the 17th Christmas that Amanda Hundley will spend without her mother, Michele Lyn Hundley Smith.

At 8:30 PM on December 9, 2001, 38-year-old mother of three, Michele Lyn Hundley Smith, told her family that she was going Christmas shopping. She left her home in Stoneville, North Carolina in her green, 1995 Pontiac Trans Sport van with North Carolina license plate ROK-N-ON. She was headed for Martinsville. Going shopping at night wasn’t unusual for her, and being right before Christmas and just days before her oldest daughter’s birthday, no one thought twice about it. Michele never returned, and neither her, nor her van have ever been seen since.

"My brother was just eight years old and he was very upset. That Christmas, we didn't have much of a Christmas because of it. We didn't even care about the gifts and stuff because …our mom [was] gone. That's Christmas I'll never forget," Amanda tells The Vanished host, Marissa Jones. While the rest of us are cozying up to sweaters and spiced lattes, Amanda, doesn't want another holiday season to pass without having answers about what happened to her mom."
