PHCC awarded Virginia Governor’s Technology Award

RICHMOND – Thursday, Patrick Henry Community College accepted the Innovative Use of Technology In Education Award during the Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative Technology Symposium in Richmond.

PHCC was one of 22 state entities receiving technology awards this year.

The awards recognize the state entities that have implemented exceptionally innovative solutions for providing public services.

The winners, which represent state agencies, localities, and educational institutions, were named in nine categories and were judged by a panel of Virginia government information technology experts.

The judges selected PHCC for this award because of one particular piece of technology that the college recently installed – Anatomage Tables.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Harvest Foundation, PHCC was able to purchase four of the $72,000 tables this summer.

This equipment provides a life-sized digital alternative to a having human cadaver.

For students studying anatomy and physiology or other healthcare-related courses, the interactive tool provides a wealth of learning opportunities.

For instructors, the tables provide a myriad of training tools such as quizzes, tests, and the ability to give real-time demonstrations on a life-sized model that the whole class can see.

In a statement released from the Governor’s office, Northam said, “With these awards, we celebrate the talented individuals and collaborative efforts that are making life better for all Virginians and positioning the Commonwealth as a hub for innovation.”
