MARTINSVILLE – The Martinsville High School Band is seeking previous band members to attend the MAVAHI Alumni Night on Friday, September 14. Alumni will march into Dan Greene Memorial Stadium with the band and receive free admission to the football game. Participating alumni will receive free t-shirts, enjoy reserved seating with the band and take the field at halftime to play the fight song and form the iconic “M.”
MAVAHI Band Director Brian Joyce said, “I am so excited for the MAVAHI Band Alumni Night on September 14, 2018! The MAVAHI Alumni Band will perform with the current band in the stands during the game and play the MHS Fight Song on the field at half time. It will be great to see all of the past musicians, color guard/flag corps members, and drum majors in the band again for this special night. It will be a lot of fun!”
Previous band members should register at www.thebulldogband.com by September 1 to ensure t-shirt availability and indicate whether or not they need to borrow an instrument. Music will be provided prior and for those interested, a practice will be held prior to the game from 5:30 to 6:30 PM in the auditorium lobby. MAVAHI Alumni will also be rewarded with free games of bowling from Sportlanes and discount vouchers from Hugo’s Sports Restaurant & Bar. If other businesses would like to support the event, please contact the Band Boosters.
John Phillips, Band Boosters Secretary and Event Chair, stated, “Our band is rich in history and tradition started by the late Ralph Shank in 1947. We currently have 107 alumni registered representing the following 37 classes: ’61, ’70, ‘78, ’80, ‘82-84, ‘86-91, ’94, ‘96-98, and ’00-18. Our goal is to have every class represented, at least since 1968 when the current high school opened.”
