Martinsville man charged with robbery


MARTINSVILLE – The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a robbery that occurred in the area of Old Chatham Rd. and Green Hill Dr., Martinsville, Virginia on July 6, 2018 at 6:31pm. An unknown black male subject appearing to be in his late twenties flagged down the victim, Charlie Redd Jr., 83, stating his vehicle was out of gas.  The victim gave the unknown male a ride to the Daytona Mart at 1960 Old Chatham Rd. and purchased gas.  When the victim and the unknown male returned to the broke down vehicle and put the gas in it, the unknown male produced a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet, keys and cell phone. After robbing the victim of the items the unknown male left the area in a blue Ford vehicle.

Dennis Neal Harris Jr., 36, of 755 Stultz Rd., Martinsville, VA has been charged with robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. All charges are felonies. Harris is currently incarcerated in the Henry County Jail without bond.
