Updated: Nov 27, 2018

BASSETT FORKS – A serious head on collision involving a LifeCare ambulance just before 9 PM Friday night. The male driver of the Kia was seriously injured and taken to SOVAH. We have received an update that he was responsive once arriving at SOVAH.

LifeCare Medical Transports said the following in a release Monday:

"A LifeCare Medical Transports Ambulance was involved in a motor vehicle accident; being struck by another vehicle crossing several lanes of traffic on Virginia Avenue in Bassett. Although the two crew members were injured, they were able to extricate themselves from their ambulance and proceeded to treat the driver of the other vehicle who was seriously injured. The two LifeCare employees were treated at the hospital and released with minor injuries.

Emergency Medical Services’ providers are often faced with scenes at motor vehicle accidents. However, a provider being involved in the incident and then responding is a true demonstration of what it means to be a First Responder. LifeCare Medical Transports is honored and privileged to be able to say the two providers are members of the LifeCare family. Their heroic and selfless measures of commitment to EMS is not only remarkable, but inspirational."

The accident remains under investigation.
