Kyana Smith named new Magna Vista Lady Warriors Head Basketball Coach

RIDGEWAY – Kyana Smith has been named the new Head Coach for Magna Vista High School's Girls' basketball.

Smith is an army veteran and has served various students as an athletic trainer and athletic support specialist.

She has also supported the MVHS basketball program by volunteering as the JV girls’ basketball coach in years past.

In a statement from Smith, she said, “I’m humbled to have been selected as the new Head Girls’ Basketball Coach for Magna Vista. I’m grateful to Mr. Byrd for entrusting me with the task of coaching and leading the most prestigious girls’ basketball program in the area,” adding, “I’m eager to continue to build upon the foundation that has been laid before me. We have tremendous talent returning to the program and I’m excited to see what the season and future of the program will hold.”

Charles Byrd, Principal at Magna Vista, issued his support.

“As a former girls’ basketball player who played on both the high school and college level as well as having an established rapport with our team members, I’m confident that Ms. Smith will lead our program to continued success.”

Smith will hold the position that Vicky Hayes stepped down from in March.

The Lady Warriors new head coach looks to pick up where the regular season District Champions left off.

She has a young core to work with in the coming years as she ushers in a new era of girls basketball at Magna Vista. One that looks to continue the success seen under Coach Hayes.

Congratulations to Kyana Smith!
