BTW21 – According to a national survey conducted by Deloitte, the total back-to-school spending is expected to reach $27.6 billion or $510 per household this year. You can save some money on back-to-school spending by doing some shopping this weekend. This year's sales tax holiday starts Friday, August 3 and ends Sunday, August 5. During the tax-free weekend, you can buy qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ products without paying sales tax. Here are the items that are eligible:
Qualified school supplies that are $20 or less per item
Qualified clothing and footwear that are $100 or less per item
Portable generators that are $1,000 or less per item
Gas-powered chainsaws that are $350 or less per item
Chainsaw accessories that are $60 or less per item
Specified hurricane preparedness items that are $60 or less per item
Qualifying Energy Star™ or WaterSense™ products purchased for noncommercial home or personal use that are $2,500 or less per item
