ROANOKE, VA – Carilion Clinic announced Thursday that a resident from southwest Virginia has tested positive for COVID-19.
The elderly patient was admitted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Monday, exhibiting symptoms consistent with coronavirus and was tested.
The patient was placed in an isolation unit.
Results from a commercial testing lab were received on Thursday.
The Virginia Department of Health is overseeing the investigation to trace relevant patient contacts.
Officials said the patient is in serious condition.
As of Thursday evening, Carilion Clinic had tested 172 patients for the virus, with 69 negative results, one positive, and is awaiting 102 results.
