Firefighters determine fire started after grill was left on at Henry County grocery store



HENRY COUNTY, VA – Firefighters determined a small fire at a Henry County grocery store started after a grill was left on.


A passerby called 9-1-1 and reported seeing flames from a window of the Pleasant Grove Grocery Store on Stones Dairy Road at which time the business was closed for the night.


Fieldale Volunteer Fire Department units were dispatched to the fire shortly after 11 p.m. Monday.


Responding units reported that there was no visible fire from outside of the structure, but said there was a strong smell of gas and smoke coming from inside the store.


The owner arrived after and firefighters were able to make entry inside.


After a search for what started the fire, officials determined the fire started after employees failed to turn off a grill.


There was no reported fire damage or injuries from the incident.
