UPDATE: Victim, suspect identified in Sunday shooting in Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE – Sunday at approximately 2:27 AM, the Martinsville Police Department was notified of a shooting that occurred in the 900 block of Royal Drive. The victim, Tyrel O’Bryant Coles, 29, of Martinsville was taken to SOVAH of Martinsville then transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses. During the investigation, Rashid Hakim Martin, 22, was identified as a suspect. Martin was arrested and charged with: Malicious Wounding, Use Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Maliciously Shoot in an Occupied Building. Martin is being held without bail in the Martinsville City Jail.

MARTINSVILLE – A male that suffered a gun shot wound was transported to SOVAH Health in Martinsville by two other males. The condition of the victim is unknown. The two other males are being interviewed by the police department. The incident occurred around 2:27 AM Sunday on the 900 block of Royal Drive.

Martinsville Police Department investigators are on scene conducting an investigation.
