UPDATE: Bassett man arrested for Figsboro General Store burglary

FIGSBORO – On August 5, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary that occurred at Figsboro General Store located at 3899 Figsboro Road. The suspect had driven a vehicle into the store to gain entry, causing a significant amount of damage to the building. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the cash register.

The individual responsible for the burglary was last seen traveling in the direction of Franklin County. On August 5, a 2002 Ford Explorer believed to be operated by the suspect was recovered in Franklin County.

Through the course of the investigation, Carl Anthony Harding, 47, of 687 Country Ridge Road in Bassett was developed as a suspect. Tuesday, investigators from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office arrested Harding in Fieldale.

Carl Anthony Harding was charged with one count of breaking and entering (felony), two counts of destruction of property (felony) and one count of larceny (misdemeanor). He is currently held in the Henry County Jail without bond.

The individual responsible for the burglary was last seen traveling in the direction of Franklin County, Virginia. On August 5, 2018, a 2002 Ford Explorer believed to be operated by the suspect was recovered in Franklin County, Virginia.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the individual involved in this incident. FIGSBORO – According to Figsboro General Store managers and employees, a man backed a white SUV into the store to break in. The man then drove the SUV about 9 feet into the store and smashed a cash register to obtain an undisclosed amount of cash. The break-in occurred around 3 AM Sunday morning.
